SCC Swim Team – Mini Dolphin Program
Where Little Swimmers Begin Their Big Journey!
The Mini Dolphin Program is the perfect introduction to the SCC Swim Team for our youngest and newest swimmers. Designed with care and intention, this program focuses on developing the fundamental skills needed for long-term success in the water — all while making swimming fun, engaging, and confidence-boosting.
Who is this for?
Mini Dolphins are typically swimmers who have completed basic swim lessons and are ready for the next step toward competitive swimming. They should be comfortable in the water and able to swim short distances independently, but they don’t need to know all four strokes yet. This program bridges the gap between swim lessons and full team practices, offering a gentle, supportive entry point to the SCC team experience.
Program Focus Areas
✔ Stamina Building – One of the first goals of the Mini Dolphin Program is to help young swimmers build endurance. Through fun, progressive drills and short sets, swimmers learn to swim longer distances without stopping, gaining confidence in their abilities and discovering just how much they can do!
✔ Stroke Introduction – Swimmers are introduced to the four competitive strokes — freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly — at a pace that’s tailored to their learning level. We break down each stroke into simple movements, focusing on the basics like proper kicking, arm motion, and breathing techniques.
✔ Stroke Development – Once swimmers are familiar with each stroke, we begin refining technique. Coaches focus on teaching proper body position, timing, and efficiency in the water. Drills, games, and fun challenges help reinforce good habits and allow swimmers to practice skills in a low-pressure environment.
✔ Team Culture & Confidence – Being part of the SCC Swim Team is more than just learning to swim well — it’s about becoming part of a community. Mini Dolphins will start to feel what it means to be part of a team. They’ll get to know their coaches, cheer on teammates, and celebrate progress at every step. Our goal is to foster a love for swimming and build the confidence that comes from learning something new.
What Comes Next?
When swimmers are ready, they’ll transition from the Mini Dolphin group into one of our full swim team training groups. At that point, they’ll be well-prepared to handle longer practices, more advanced stroke work, and even their first swim meets.
